Yanmar Compact Equipment recently introduced its first electric mini excavator prototype, the SV17e.

Aimed at customers in the European market, the SV17e is a mini excavator that plays in the 1.5- to 2.0-tonne segment. Powered by an electric drive and 48-volt batteries with fast charging capability, the machine is quiet and emits zero emissions. It is currently undergoing a vigorous product testing regimen prior to an anticipated release in Europe later this year.

“The SV17e prototype is a clear demonstration of our intent to build a sustainable business for our customers and dealer partners,” said company CEO, Giuliano Parodi. “Our transformation will embrace our entire business and will encompass new products with alternative fuel technologies.”

Yanmar Compact Equipment says that going electric has not brought compromise to the high levels of comfort, ergonomics and operational power, precision and control that they design into their machinery.

“Our prototype is significant because it demonstrates our capability to bring the quality and reliability of our highly respected conventional engine technology into the arena of electrification,” explained director of product management EMEA, Cedric Durand. “As always, the operator is at the heart of this machine, and we have challenged ourselves to deliver the comfort, power, control and precision which we believe will surpass the expectations of professional operators.”

For those who cannot wait until Bauma 2022 to see the new SV17e in action, Yanmar has prepared a short teaser film, which can be found at: https://youtu.be/zXrsD9reDcQ.
